It was promoted to the second highest tier of Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tournaments, the ATP World Tour 500 series, in 2009, and now has prize money of over two million euros. Forty-five years since it launched, Swiss Indoors Basel is Switzerland's largest sporting event and one of the world's most important indoor tennis tournaments.
